Amber
Amber is a hardened tree resin, consisting of compounds of terpenes, alcohols, and esters. Trees produced it as protection against disease and insect infestation when the bark of a tree was opened due to limb that broke away or attacks by wood-boring beetles, or for other reasons. After oozing out, it hardened in wet sediments, such as clay and sand that formed at the bottom of lagoons or river deltas and was preserved in the earth's crust for millenniums.

A Workplace of Craftsmen and Goldsmiths

Even the most experienced miner can be deceived by the external appearance and lose a lot of work and effort while the buyer of the unsuitable raw material is in danger of losing all of his invested money.

Once cut into pieces, the original fragments of Larimar are transformed into true jewels.

After a first selection, they are classified according to size, color, forms and other characteristics.

The process continues with the polishing through which the fragments acquire a shine that increases their natural beauty.

One of the most important steps is the cutting or subdividing of the original fragments.

The cut does not only depend on the size fragment as such, but basically on the selection of the forms and designs that the mineral itself reveals in its natural form, and -of course- on the creativity of the experienced craftsman.

Assembly:
Transformation into a Jewel
The last and more difficult part of the process of transformimg the stone into a final jewel is the assembly. Before mounting the piece, the goldsmith has to devise the support that corresponds to each one of the future jewels.

Nevertheless, it is the mineral itself that, in multiple occasions, inspires the artist; it is the real spark that puts his creativity into action.

Once the support has been conceived, the larimar is being mounted and the transformation has been accomplished. The most common supports are made of gold and silver.

Extraordinary pieces of art are also created combining the Larimar with other materials like amber and a long list of others, as extense as the creativity and experience of the goldsmith artist.
